Harvesting

Potato vines are desiccated in order to obtain skin set. This keeps the potatoes from dehydrating so that they can be stored properly until packing is necessary.

Harvest is accomplished with a Pearson harvester from England. Again, we were the first to employ this style of harvester in the U.S. This harvester is specially designed to gently harvest potatoes grown in de-stoned beds. The potatoes are harvested directly into the 1,000 pound storage bins located on a wagon being pulled alongside the harvester. Our potatoes will not need to be handled by anymore equipment until it is time for washing, sorting, and packaging. The bins are labeled in accordance to variety, date harvested, and field location. This allows us to trace quality issues back to the field if necessary.
